Dave Moore - Natural Edge Bowl

Dave Moore demonstrated turning a natural edge bowl at our February Meeting.

Dave demonstrated how to turn a natural edge bowl from a small log/branch.

The demonstration concentrated on how to safely hold the log on the lathe, shaping the outside, creating a chucking point (tenon), reversing the log to hollow out the bowl - paying particular focus on even wall thickness throughout.  He then reversed the bowl using a jam chuck to remove most of the tenon, leaving a small foot.

Jack Vage - "The Clicker"

Jack Vage demonstrated turning a "clicker"

Everyone was concentrating very hard to try and work out what Jack was making.... he had kept it a secret..... it was a very "can you guess what it is yet?" evening!

Very precise small parts turning, using tools made by Jack and multiple parts turned to tight tolerances.

When it was assembled and passed around - not all the audience could get it to work! Much laughter when the "secret" was revealed!

Steve James - Colouring

Steve James, demonstrated colouring at our February Meeting.

In a superb demonstration, Steve showed how the natural beauty of wood can be enhanced by colouring... how less can be more, whilst adding both colour and texture.

The demonstration concentrated on the application of iridescent acrylic paints using a variety of techniques, with the final section focusing on how best to show the results through polishing and the application of appropriate finishes.

Chris Foweraker RPT

An outstanding all day demonstration by Chris Foweraker .

Chris managed to put across in an easily digestible way (lucky for my challenged brain cells!) how to create 2 projects with just a very basic set of tools.

Something for everyone - novice & experienced alike. Great teacher & entertainer!

We all had a few “why didn’t we think of that?” moments when Chris passed on simple tips to make woodturning that little bit easier & more consistent.
